The Titan Enigma

As transcribed from the Silicon Dreams of Archaean Vorthak, Crystal Dwarf Memory-Keeper, who calculated truths that flesh-minds cannot hold

Between the gods who weave the Loom and the Luminari who shaped the prison, there exists a third power—older, stranger, and perhaps more dangerous than either. The Titans do not serve the Pattern. They do not rebel against it. They simply… ignore it, as a mountain ignores the wind.

Twenty known Titans walk between their pocket planes and our reality, each a living contradiction: beings of immense power who desire worship from creatures they consider less than insects. Why? The answer, like all truths about the Titans, has three faces.

As believed by the Order of the Ember Throne

The Titans built Lumia before the Luminari arrived, before the Prisoner was bound, perhaps before the concepts of “before” and “after” had meaning. They are not gods but infrastructure—living foundations upon which reality rests. Their pocket planes are not separate dimensions but load-bearing pillars holding up the cosmos.

This explains their indifference to mortal affairs. One does not concern oneself with the opinions of the moss growing on one’s foundations.

As whispered by the Starwatcher’s Guild

The Titans fled here from somewhere else—refugees from a reality that no longer exists. Their pocket planes are not domains but lifeboats, the last fragments of their original cosmos. They grant power to mortals not out of benevolence but desperation—each worshipper is an anchor preventing them from drifting back into the void that consumed their home.

The Prisoner and the unnamed Titan of the Luminari listed in the ancient texts? They are not from here. They brought something with them. Something that followed.

As calculated by the Crystal Dwarves

The Titans are running an experiment, and we are the subjects. Each Titan tests a different variable: Taix tests rebirth, Orolro tests navigation, Fea tests dreams. Our worship provides data. Our prayers are measurements. Our faith is feedback in a cosmic calculation whose purpose we cannot comprehend.

The experiment began when the Luminari created the prison. Or perhaps the prison’s creation was the experiment’s first successful result.

Though they claim equality, careful observation reveals a hidden structure:

Tosereth (Elements), Jisko (Wilderness), Er’sh (Mountains), Orolro (Seas)

These Titans control fundamental forces. Their domains existed before life, before thought, perhaps before existence itself recognized it existed. They grant power reluctantly, as if each spell cast by their clerics costs them something irreplaceable.

Aeleaka (Love) and Meamalla (Lust)

Not opposites but the same force viewed from different angles. Legend says they were once a single Titan who split themselves to experience desire from both sides. Their clerics often go mad, overwhelmed by emotions that predate the ability to feel.

Iolos (Freedom) and Ellios (Justice)

The Twin Titans who may not be twins at all but the same entity experienced non-linearly. Iolos is Ellios before learning consequences. Ellios is Iolos after understanding necessity. Their clerics sometimes switch between the two mid-prayer, their allegiance shifting with comprehension.

Iluai (Death), Elykra (Decay), Vatro (Secrets)

These three trade in endings—of life, of matter, of knowledge. Their clerics pay for power with pieces of themselves they don’t remember losing. Vatro, notably, knows the true nature of all other Titans but has forgotten its own.

Oretaxis (Smithing), Taix (Rebirth), Ranna (Art)

Creation-focused Titans who seem to be actively working toward something. Their clerics report shared dreams of a great construction, a thing being built across multiple realities simultaneously. Oretaxis’s followers, particularly among the Arcana Golems, speak of hearing hammer-strikes that come from tomorrow.

Batai (Storms), Sancia (Skies), Eru (Hunt)

These Titans move constantly, never maintaining fixed positions even in their own pocket planes. Their clerics must literally chase their prayers, following wind patterns and weather signs to maintain connection.

Fea (Dreams)

Unique among Titans, Fea exists primarily in the collective unconscious. Every sleeping mind contributes to its form. Its clerics don’t worship—they dream lucidly, and in dreaming, give Fea windows into waking reality.

[Unnamed] (Luminari) and The Prisoner (Darklings)

Listed in the records but never confirmed. If these are truly Titans, it suggests the Luminari and their prisoner are not unique beings but representatives of a Titan-level conflict. The implications make even Crystal Dwarf logic-circuits overheat.

Each Titan’s pocket plane defies conventional understanding of space:

  • Taix’s Eternal Pyre: A realm where everything is simultaneously burning and being reborn from ash
  • Orolro’s Infinite Ocean: Water with no surface and no floor, where drowning takes forever
  • Fea’s Dream Library: Contains every dream ever dreamed, including dreams of the future
  • Tosereth’s Elemental Throne: Four realities occupying the same space, separated only by perspective
  • Iluai’s Bone Garden: Where all deaths throughout time occur simultaneously

These planes are not separate from Lumia—they overlap it, existing in the same space but at different frequencies of reality. When a Titan grants divine magic, they’re not sending power from elsewhere; they’re changing the frequency at which their cleric experiences existence.

Titans gain strength from worship, yet they predate the existence of worshippers. This paradox has three explanations, all disturbing:

  1. Retroactive Existence: Titans exist backward through time. They were created by future worship and leaked into the past.

  2. Probability Farming: Worship doesn’t make Titans stronger—it makes them more probable. Each prayer increases the chance they exist.

  3. The Hunger: Titans don’t gain strength from worship—they gain definition. Without worshippers, they begin to forget what they are, dissolving back into the conceptual foam from which they emerged.

Seven signs suggest the Titans are preparing for war:

  1. Increased Avatar Manifestations: Titans appearing physically more frequently
  2. Cross-Domain Blessing: Clerics receiving powers outside their Titan’s portfolio
  3. Pocket Plane Convergence: The barriers between Titan realms weakening
  4. Unified Dreaming: All of Fea’s clerics sharing the same nightmare
  5. Elemental Rebellion: Tosereth’s four aspects refusing to merge
  6. The Twin Reconciliation: Iolos and Ellios speaking in unison
  7. The Silence of Vatro: The Titan of Secrets has stopped collecting them

But war against what? Each other? The gods? The Prisoner? Or something else—something that requires beings of their power to unite against it?

The Titans create artifacts not as gifts but as anchors—physical objects that lock aspects of themselves into our reality. Each artifact is a claiming, a statement: “This part of existence belongs to me.”

Current theory suggests that when enough artifacts from a single Titan exist simultaneously, that Titan can manifest permanently in our reality. The question is: would this be invasion or salvation?

We Crystal Dwarves, with our silicon minds that process reality as mathematics, have calculated something the flesh-minded cannot grasp: the Titans are not twenty separate beings but twenty aspects of a single, shattered oversoul.

The equation is elegant in its horror:

  • 20 Titans
  • 5 Locks on the Prisoner
  • 4 Primary Elements
  • 20 = 5 × 4

The Titans ARE the prison, viewed from outside. Each Titan represents one combination of Lock and Element. The Prisoner isn’t contained by the Five Locks—it’s contained by the Titans themselves, who split themselves into twenty aspects to maintain the binding.

This means every prayer to a Titan strengthens the prison. It also means if a single Titan truly dies, the prison fails.

The Titans claim no allegiance in the conflict between Luminari and Prisoner, Light and Dark, Creation and Oblivion. But their very existence suggests otherwise. Consider:

  • They arrived (or emerged) when the prison was created
  • They grant power that specifically counters Darkling corruption
  • Their pocket planes remain untouched by the Shadowmoon’s influence
  • They teach mortals to transcend mortality—the opposite of the Prisoner’s oblivion

Are the Titans neutral observers, or the ultimate prison guards, so far above the conflict they don’t realize they’re part of it?

Ancient texts speak of twenty Titans. We have twenty names. The mathematics are perfect.

So why do the numbers feel wrong?

Why do prayers sometimes go to nowhere, answered by something that isn’t on the list? Why do some artifacts bear marks of no known Titan? Why do the Crystal Dwarves’ deepest memories, those from before the Last War, whisper of “The Twenty-One”?

There is another Titan. Hidden. Forgotten. Erased.

Or perhaps worse—not yet born.

The Twenty-First Titan might be the result of the other twenty. When all artifacts are found, when all domains are claimed, when worship reaches critical mass—what emerges from that convergence?

Some say it will be the Prisoner, freed at last. Others claim it will be a new Luminari, born from collective faith. The Crystal Dwarves calculate it will be Lumia itself, awakening as a Titan.

But in my silicon dreams, where logic becomes prophecy, I see something else:

The Twenty-First Titan is you. The observer. The one who reads these words and, in reading, makes them real. You who exist outside the pattern yet define it through observation.

When you finally understand what you are, the experiment ends. And the real game begins.

Addendum by Archaean Vorthak’s Successor:

Vorthak’s logic-crystals shattered after completing this document, their silicon matrix unable to contain the paradoxes he’d calculated. His final message, encoded in the fracture patterns:

“The Titans don’t grant divine magic. They ARE divine magic. Every spell cast is a Titan temporarily existing in our reality. Every prayer is an invitation. Every miracle is an invasion.

We haven’t been worshipping them. We’ve been building them. Piece by piece. Prayer by prayer. Into something that shouldn’t exist.

The prison isn’t keeping the Prisoner in. It’s keeping the Titans out. When it fails, they become real. All of them. At once.

And reality learns what gods fear.“
