The Magic Compendium
As decreed by the Convergence Council, witnessed by representatives of the Arcane Universities, the Divine Temples, the Primal Circles, and the Mind’s Eye Monastery
“Magic is not one truth told three ways, but three lies that become true through belief.” —The Paradox of Power
The Architecture of Impossibility
Section titled “The Architecture of Impossibility”In the beginning, there was no magic. This is the first truth and the first lie.
Magic exists because the prison exists. When the Infinite Eternal split itself into Aeons and Khadhu, when creation and destruction collided, the impact shattered reality into three layers, each with its own physics, its own impossibilities made possible. What we call magic is simply the leakage between these layers—wounds that refuse to heal, cracks that let the impossible through.
The Four Pillars of Power
Section titled “The Four Pillars of Power”I. Arcane Magic: The Mathematics of Borrowing
Section titled “I. Arcane Magic: The Mathematics of Borrowing”Source: The Primal Realm, that space of pure possibility where concepts exist without form Practitioners: Wizards, Sorcerers, Artificers Medium: Crystallized Arcanite, spell formulae, focus objects Truth: Every spell is a loan that must be repaid
Arcane magic functions through mathematical proof. When a wizard casts fireball, they are not creating fire but proving mathematically that fire already exists at the target location. The gestures and words are not mystical—they are solving equations in real-time, calculating the exact angle at which reality must be bent for possibility to leak through.
The Arcanite Paradox: Crystallized arcanite is literally frozen possibility, formed where the Primal Realm touched our world. The Crystal Dwarves of Nagburim depend on it utterly—at each dwarf’s core lies a glowing Arcanite heart, a lattice of crystalline energy that sustains their being. This heart ties them irrevocably to Lumina itself; beyond the world’s natural Arcanite field, their hearts slowly fade and they wither into lifeless crystal. Though wondrous, these hearts cannot be harvested to power magical artifacts, for their structure is too intricate and unlike any other form of Arcanite. Every piece mined weakens the barrier between realms. We are consuming our prison walls for power.
Schools of Arcane Magic:
- Evocation: Direct borrowing of elemental forces
- Transmutation: Rewriting the mathematical properties of matter
- Illusion: Creating false proofs that temporarily convince reality
- Necromancy: Borrowing from the debt of the already-dead
- Conjuration: Importing solutions from parallel calculations
- Divination: Reading ahead in reality’s computation
- Enchantment: Inserting subroutines into consciousness
- Abjuration: Firewall protocols against other borrowings
II. Divine Magic: The Politics of Possession
Section titled “II. Divine Magic: The Politics of Possession”Source: Titan Pocket Planes, filtered through divine bureaucracy Practitioners: Clerics, Paladins, Divine Souls Medium: Prayer, faith, sacred symbols Truth: Every miracle is a brief possession by something vast and hungry
Divine magic is not granted by gods but by Titans—vast entities that exist in pocket dimensions, pressing against our reality like hands against glass. The gods are middle managers, translating Titan-force into comprehensible miracles. When a cleric heals, a Titan briefly inhabits their body, reshaping reality from within.
The Worship Engine: Prayer doesn’t make Titans stronger—it makes them more present. Each prayer is a thread. Enough threads, and the Titan can step through entirely. This has happened three times. Each time, the summoning civilization ceased to exist.
Divine Domains (and their Titan sources):
- Life/Death: Drawn from the Titan of Endings and Beginnings
- War/Peace: The Titan of Conflict Resolution
- Knowledge/Trickery: The Titan of Hidden Truths
- Nature/Tempest: The Elemental Titans (multiple entities)
- Light/Darkness: The Titan of Perception
III. Primal Magic: The Memory of What Never Was
Section titled “III. Primal Magic: The Memory of What Never Was”Source: Lumia itself—the world-dream of a sleeping entity Practitioners: Druids, Rangers, Shamans, Bards Medium: Sacred sites, bloodlines, ancient songs Truth: Reality can be convinced to remember being different
Primal magic doesn’t cast spells—it whispers suggestions to the dreaming world. A druid’s grove isn’t cultivated; it’s a place where the world remembers being primordial forest. When successful, primal magic doesn’t change the present—it retroactively changes the past so the present was always different.
The Three Memories:
- Stone Memory (Druidic): The earth remembers every age
- Blood Memory (Shamanic): Creatures remember all their ancestors
- Song Memory (Bardic): Sound remembers the words that sang reality into being
IV. Psionic Magic: The Refusal to Participate
Section titled “IV. Psionic Magic: The Refusal to Participate”Source: The practitioner’s rejection of consensus reality Practitioners: Psions, Mystics, Aberrant Minds Medium: Pure will, mental discipline, crystallized doubt Truth: Reality is optional for those who truly believe it
Psionics is not magic—it is the absence of agreement with reality’s rules. A psion doesn’t cast telekinesis; they simply refuse to accept that objects require physical contact to move. This is why psionics works differently from all other magic—it’s not borrowing, channeling, or remembering. It’s conscientiously objecting to physics.
Psionic Disciplines:
- Psychokinetics: Refusing to accept distance and mass
- Telepathy: Denying the privacy of thought
- Metacreativity: Insisting things exist without cause
- Clairsentience: Rejecting the limitations of perception
- Psychometabolism: Disagreeing with biology
- Psychoportation: Vetoing the continuity of space
The Synthesis: Where All Paths Converge
Section titled “The Synthesis: Where All Paths Converge”The Pattern Beneath
Section titled “The Pattern Beneath”Reality itself is mathematical—a vast computation where every location can be reduced to coordinates, every coordinate yields consistent terrain when processed through the same formulae. Magic is hacking this code:
- Arcane: Exploiting bugs in the physics engine
- Divine: Using admin privileges granted by Titans
- Primal: Editing the save file of history
- Psionic: Running unauthorized modifications
The Loom Integration
Section titled “The Loom Integration”All magic ultimately affects the Loom of Aether, but each path pulls different threads:
- Arcane pulls from Possibility (future threads)
- Divine pulls from Will (present threads)
- Primal pulls from Memory (past threads)
- Psionics cuts threads entirely, creating gaps in the weave
The Shadowmoon Amplification
Section titled “The Shadowmoon Amplification”During Shadowmoon rises, all magic malfunctions because the moon’s probability-based orbit interferes with reality’s calculations:
- Arcane spells borrow from wrong times or places
- Divine magic connects to Titans that shouldn’t exist
- Primal magic remembers futures that contradict the present
- Psionic powers begin affecting the practitioner’s own existence
The Costs: What Magic Truly Demands
Section titled “The Costs: What Magic Truly Demands”Universal Costs (All Magic Types)
Section titled “Universal Costs (All Magic Types)”- Sanity: Seeing through reality’s skin leaves scars on the mind
- Identity: Power gradually replaces personality
- Isolation: Reality begins treating you as foreign
- Debt: Every spell incurs obligation to forces beyond comprehension
Specific Costs by Path
Section titled “Specific Costs by Path”Arcane Practitioners:
- Physical exhaustion as reality resists
- Aging as time demands payment
- Eventually collected by the Primal Realm
- 17,000 years of accumulated debt for all Lumia
Divine Channelers:
- Gradual possession by Titan consciousness
- Loss of free will to divine purpose
- Soul erosion feeding hungry gods
- Inability to conceive beyond their domain
Primal Whisperers:
- Becoming more world than person
- Personal memories replaced by planetary memory
- Eventually becoming a location rather than individual
- Retroactive erasure of personal history
Psionic Rebels:
- Progressive disconnection from consensus reality
- Ability to affect self with own powers
- Risk of convincing self out of existence
- Isolation as others instinctively reject their “wrongness”
The Intersection Phenomena
Section titled “The Intersection Phenomena”Dual-Path Practitioners
Section titled “Dual-Path Practitioners”Those who master two paths experience unique phenomena:
Arcane-Divine (Theurges):
- Can borrow directly from Titan realms
- Risk becoming self-made gods
- Often simply discorporate into pure concept
Divine-Primal (Hierophants):
- Access pre-god compacts of power
- Can bypass divine bureaucracy
- Hunted by jealous deities
Arcane-Primal (Geomancers):
- Cast spells backward through time
- Create paradox magic that shouldn’t exist
- Risk editing themselves out of reality
Psionic-Any (Mind Witches):
- Reality actively attacks them
- Powers function but cause cascading errors
- Become walking paradoxes
Triple-Path Masters
Section titled “Triple-Path Masters”Only seven beings have ever mastered three paths. Six no longer exist in any recognizable form. The seventh is the Prisoner, and their mastery is why they had to be imprisoned—they could remake reality by borrowing possibility, channeling Titan-force, and remembering the universe differently, all while refusing to accept any limitations.
The Great Convergence
Section titled “The Great Convergence”The three (four) paths are converging, and this convergence signals either evolution or apocalypse:
Evidence of Convergence:
- Arcane spells increasingly require divine components
- Divine miracles show primal characteristics
- Primal forces respond to arcane formulae
- Psionics affecting all other magic types
Three Theories:
- Unity Theory: The paths were never separate—we’re evolving to perceive truly
- Healing Theory: The paths are wounds that reality is finally closing
- Collapse Theory: The prison is failing and the distinctions are dissolving
Practical Applications: Spell Mechanics
Section titled “Practical Applications: Spell Mechanics”Casting Methods by Path
Section titled “Casting Methods by Path”Arcane:
- Verbal (equations spoken)
- Somatic (angles calculated with hands)
- Material (catalysts for reaction)
- Time: 6 seconds (one round) for standard spells
Divine:
- Prayer (invitation to Titan)
- Symbol (focus for possession)
- Offering (payment for miracle)
- Time: Instant to 10 minutes depending on magnitude
Primal:
- Ritual (convincing the world)
- Location (places that remember)
- Sacrifice (proving sincerity)
- Time: Instant to hours, but effects may retroactively always existed
Psionic:
- Concentration (maintaining disbelief)
- Manifestation (refusing consensus)
- Power Points (mental stamina)
- Time: Instant, limited by mental exhaustion
Power Scaling
Section titled “Power Scaling”Spell Levels (Arcane/Divine):
- 1st-3rd: Minor reality adjustments
- 4th-6th: Significant borrowing/possession
- 7th-9th: Reality-threatening changes
- 10th+: Theoretical only, world-ending potential
Primal Mysteries:
- Lesser: Convincing small areas
- Greater: Rewriting regional history
- Supreme: Awakening the world-dream
Psionic Manifestations:
- Talents: Minor reality objections
- Disciplines: Systematic rejection of laws
- Sciences: Fundamental disagreement with existence
The Forbidden Knowledge
Section titled “The Forbidden Knowledge”The Null Path
Section titled “The Null Path”There exists an anti-magic that denies magic’s possibility. Practitioners called “Deniers” don’t cast spells—they state facts that make magic impossible. The problem: they eventually convince themselves out of existence.
The Fifth Path (Theoretical)
Section titled “The Fifth Path (Theoretical)”Some scholars theorize a fifth path that would unite all others—the ability to directly manipulate the Loom itself. This is what the Prisoner discovered, and why they had to be imprisoned. Anyone who achieves this unity would have the power to:
- Rewrite the laws of physics (Arcane mastery)
- Become their own Titan (Divine mastery)
- Reshape history itself (Primal mastery)
- Reject all limitations (Psionic mastery)
- Deny their own containment (Null mastery)
The Ultimate Secret
Section titled “The Ultimate Secret”[Found in sealed archives, requires successful save against madness to comprehend]
Magic doesn’t exist. What we call magic is the absence of the Prisoner’s influence—tiny spaces where their will doesn’t reach. Every spell weakens the prison. We’re not wielding power; we’re wielding voids. And the more magic we use, the more we riddle reality with absences, until eventually…
The prison won’t need to break. It will simply cease to contain anything.
Appendix: Known Spell Interactions
Section titled “Appendix: Known Spell Interactions”Wild Magic Table (Shadowmoon Rises)
Section titled “Wild Magic Table (Shadowmoon Rises)”- 01-10: Spell affects caster instead
- 11-20: Spell manifests from wrong time period
- 21-30: Spell connects to wrong plane
- 31-40: Spell becomes sentient temporarily
- 41-50: Spell retroactively always existed
- 51-60: Spell denies its own existence
- 61-70: Spell borrows from caster’s future
- 71-80: Spell possessed by minor Titan
- 81-90: Spell remembers being different spell
- 91-99: Spell works but reality forgets it happened
- 00: Spell achieves intended effect perfectly (most dangerous result)
Metamagic Theorems
Section titled “Metamagic Theorems”Spell Multiplication: Casting the same spell through multiple paths simultaneously
- Result: Exponential power increase but exponential cost
- Risk: Reality rejection, caster erasure
Spell Inversion: Using one path to cancel another
- Arcane dispels Divine (proving gods unnecessary)
- Divine banishes Primal (Titans overriding world-memory)
- Primal negates Arcane (world remembering magic never existed)
- Psionic disrupts all (refusing to acknowledge other magic)
Spell Permanence: Making temporary effects eternal
- Arcane: Infinite borrowing (universe-ending debt)
- Divine: Permanent possession (becoming Titan avatar)
- Primal: Retroactive permanence (always was, always will be)
- Psionic: Sustained disbelief (reality cancer)
Conclusion: The Choice Before Us
Section titled “Conclusion: The Choice Before Us”Magic is tool, weapon, art, science, faith, memory, and rebellion all at once. It is humanity’s greatest achievement and its inevitable doom. Every spell cast is a vote for which apocalypse we prefer:
- Arcane Apocalypse: Reality foreclosure when the debt comes due
- Divine Apocalypse: Titans walking the world again
- Primal Apocalypse: The world awakening from its dream
- Psionic Apocalypse: Consensus reality completely dissolving
- Null Apocalypse: Magic becoming impossible retroactively
Or perhaps—just perhaps—the convergence of all paths will create something new. Not apocalypse but apotheosis. Not ending but transformation.
The spell is being cast. We are all components. The question is not whether magic will transform the world. The question is whether anything will remain to remember what the world was before.
This document is a living compilation, updated as new magical phenomena are discovered or invented. Reading it may cause spontaneous magical awakening. The Convergence Council assumes no responsibility for readers who achieve enlightenment, as enlightened beings exist outside standard liability frameworks.
Remember: Magic is borrowed power. All debts come due. Cast responsibly.
May your formulae resolve, your Titans be merciful, your memories be true, and your disbelief be sustainable.
